Project 2025 101- A Basic Introduction

By now you’ve probably heard of Project 2025. But what is it? What does it propose? What will it do?
Well, for starters, the whole thing is over 900 pages long. Yes, 900 pages.
Do you want to read that? Do you have the time to read it?
We thought not. So, we’re here to help.
Over the next several weeks, we’re going to answer your questions about project 2025. We’ll start with the basics, then go from there. We’ll go to trusted sources. We’ll give you a short answer to your question, and a link if you want to know more.
All we need from you is your questions. If you have a question, leave it in a comment on any of our Project 2025 posts on the Carson Dems Facebook page, and we’ll get right to it.

What is Project 2025?

“Project 2025 is a conservative coalition's plan for a future Republican U.S. presidential administration. Project leaders are hoping to put Project 2025 into motion as early as November 2024 if voters elect former President Donald Trump.”
According to snopes.com, “Critics including legal experts and former government employees have described Project 2025 as a precursor to authoritarianism — albeit a difficult one to implement — and a wave of social media posts are expressing fear over the initiative, calling it a "fascist" and "extremist" plan for Trump to "reshape America." Numerous reports have also called this conservative effort to reshape the government unprecedented in its scale.

Project 2025 – who came up with this idea?

The Heritage Foundation — a conservative think tank operated by many of Trump's current and former political allies — is leading the initiative. Heritage Foundation President Kevin Roberts once said the project's main goals are "institutionalizing Trumpism" and getting rid of unelected bureaucrats who he believes wield too much political influence.
But the document contains much more than suggestions to get rid of “unelected bureaucrats.” It proposes reconfiguring every agency and policy of the federal government to align with ultra-conservative values and goals. Trump restated this goal late this summer.

What does Trump have to do with Project 2025?

He says: “I know nothing about Project 2025. I have no idea who is behind it.”
We don’t believe him.

  • Christian nationalist Russell Vought, a principal author of Project 2025, served as President Trump’s director of the Office of Management and Budget. John McEntee, director of the Presidential Personnel Office in the Trump administration is a “senior advisor” on Project 2025. These are Trump’s people!
  • And there are more. Popular Info put together a long list of former Trump administration officials who have worked on Project 2025.

Who does Trump think he is fooling?

Project 2025 Issues

Climate Change

What does Project 2025 have to say about climate change? According to Yale Climate Connections, Project 2025 “calls for eliminating federal restrictions on fossil fuel drilling on public lands, curtailing federal investments in renewable energy technologies, and easing environmental permitting restrictions and procedures for new fossil fuel projects such as power plants.

What’s been designed here is a project that ensures a fossil fuel agenda,” said Craig Segall, vice president of the climate-oriented political advocacy group Evergreen Action.

Project 2025 urges the next president to immediately repeal the Inflation Reduction Act, Biden’s signature act which has provided funding for significant clean energy projects throughout the country, generating thousands of clean energy jobs.

And there is more. Wikipedia: “It proposes abandoning strategies for reducing greenhouse gas emissions responsible for climate change, including by repealing regulations that curb emissions, downsizing the Environmental Protection Agency (EPA), and abolishing the National Oceanic and Atmospheric Administration (NOAA), which the project calls "one of the main drivers of the climate change alarm industry". The disbanding of NOAA has been criticized as endangering lives, shooting the messenger, and serving the climate denial movement.”

Nuclear Weapons

Project 2025  calls for more nuclear weapons? Seriously?

NEVADA IS NOT A WASTELAND!

That’s the well-known motto of Citizen Alert, founded in 1975 to educate about the effects of nuclear testing on Nevada’s health and on world peace.

Nevadans know about nuclear waste and nuclear weapons because we have died from them. We are the land of the downwinders. Downwinders were people in Arizona, Nevada, New Mexico, and Utah who were exposed to radioactive contamination or nuclear fallout from nuclear weapons testing and nuclear accidents. Southwesterners died from cancers and other illnesses caused by that exposure, and it is a sad, searing part of the history of Nevada and our neighboring states.

Now Project 2025 wants to spread these poisons again. The Bulletin of the Atomic Scientists calls Project 2025's nuclear policy "the most dramatic buildup of nuclear weapons since the start of the Reagan administration", and the beginning of a new global nuclear arms race.

The plan calls for a speech shortly after inauguration to "make the case to the American people that nuclear weapons are the ultimate guarantor of their freedom and prosperity". This would be followed by developing and producing new and modernized warheads; deploying a new, nuclear-armed sea-launched cruise missile; deploying as-yet-unproven directed-energy and space-based weapons and a "cruise missile defense of the homeland.”

Plans include placing multiple warheads on every Minuteman and Sentinel missile, putting nuclear warheads on Army ground-launched missiles, adding nuclear capabilities to hypersonic missile systems, directing the Air Force to investigate a road-mobile ICBM launcher, expanding the pre-positioning of nuclear bombs and weapons in Europe and Asia, and directing the National Nuclear Security Administration to "transition to a wartime footing". (Wikipedia)

Nuclear missiles cruising our highways? The deeper you dig into Project 2025, the more scary-weird ideas you find. Is this really the world that Trump and the Heritage Foundation want?

WE’RE NOT GOING BACK!

Project 2025 Index

Project 2025 is an 800+page document drafted by the Heritage Foundation, a conservative think-tank as a plan for the next conservative administration. It is called Presidential Transition Project 2025. The team that created the Project 2025 was chock-full of former Trump advisers, including director Paul Dans, who was chief of staff at the Office of Personnel Management while Trump was president.
